2205 Duplex
2205 duplex stainless steel is a nitrogen-enhanced duplex alloy composed of approximately equal parts austenite and ferrite. It offers superior strength and corrosion resistance compared to standard austenitic grades like 304 and 316, making it ideal for demanding environments such as chemical processing, marine, and oil & gas industries.
Key Features
- Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking.
- High Strength: Nearly twice the yield strength of 304/316 stainless steel.
- Good Weldability: Suitable for welding with proper procedures to maintain duplex structure.
- Temperature Range: Performs well from sub-zero temperatures up to ~600°F (316°C).
Industries and Applications
2205 stainless steel is ideal for:
- Oil & Gas: Offshore platforms, pipelines, pressure vessels
- Chemical Processing: Heat exchangers, storage tanks
- Marine: Boat hulls, seawater systems
- Pulp & Paper: Digesters, bleach washers
- Structural: Bridges, architectural components
Duplex Structure Benefits
- Combines the toughness and corrosion resistance of austenitic grades with the strength and stress resistance of ferritic grades.
- Offers cost-effective performance due to reduced material thickness in structural applications.
