Alloy C276
Alloy C276 is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy with tungsten additions, designed for exceptional corrosion resistance in the most aggressive environments. Nickel Alloy C276 is widely used in chemical processing, pollution control, pulp and paper, and marine applications. Its low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, maintaining resistance to intergranular attack.
Key Features
- Chemical Resistance: Outstanding resistance to strong oxidizing and reducing chemicals.
- Corrosion Protection: Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
- Weld Integrity: Maintains corrosion resistance even in welded condition.
- High-Temperature Strength: Good strength and moderate oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.
- Fabrication Ease: Easily fabricated using standard welding techniques.
Industries and Applications
- Oil & Gas: Offshore platforms, pipelines, pressure vessels
- Chemical Processing: Heat exchangers, storage tanks
- Marine: Boat hulls, seawater systems
- Pulp & Paper: Digesters, bleach washers
- Structural: Bridges, architectural components
Heat Treatment Capabilities
- Supplied in solution-annealed condition for optimal corrosion resistance
- Annealing temperature: ~2,100°F (1,150°C) followed by rapid cooling
- Cannot be hardened by heat treatment; strength comes from solid solution
- Excellent weldability without need for post-weld heat treatment
